New and expectant mothers in south-west London who suffer from mental health problems during or after pregnancy are set to benefit from £1.6 million extra funding.
The NHS cash will be used to boost the community perinatal mental health teams in Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.
The funding is part of a national announcement to transform specialist perinatal services — which cover pregnancy and the first year after birth — so that at least 30,000 more women can access treatment that is closer to home through community services and inpatient mother and baby units. South-west London was one of the first areas to receive the funding, and South-east London will benefit in the second wave.
